TCM Diagnosis

Our fertility-focused TCM diagnosis and consultation help you understand your body’s unique condition.

Understand the Root Cause of Fertility Challenges

When trying to conceive, many couples face uncertainty. Medical tests may appear “normal,” yet pregnancy does not happen as expected.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) provides a different perspective. Instead of focusing only on lab results, TCM looks at the body as a whole, identifying subtle imbalances that may be affecting fertility.

What Is TCM Diagnosis?

TCM diagnosis is the foundation of all treatments. Our practitioners use the Four Diagnostic Methods (望闻问切 – Observation, Listening/Smelling, Inquiry, Palpation):

  • We look at your overall appearance, including skin tone, posture, and especially the tongue.
  • The tongue’s shape, color, and coating reveal valuable information about internal organ health, blood circulation, and presence of dampness, cold, or heat in the body.
  • For fertility, a pale tongue may indicate Blood deficiency, while a purplish tongue may suggest blood stasis affecting the uterus.
  • We pay attention to the sound of your voice, breathing, and even body odor.
  • For example, a weak voice may indicate Qi deficiency, while a strong odor can reflect internal heat or dampness.
  • These subtle signs help us understand underlying imbalances that may affect reproductive health.
  • A detailed consultation where we ask about your medical history, lifestyle, sleep, digestion, emotions, and menstrual cycle patterns.
  • For fertility, key questions include: cycle length, flow, presence of pain or clots, PMS symptoms, and history of miscarriage or assisted treatments like IVF.
  • Emotional health is also important, as stress and anxiety strongly affect fertility in TCM.
  • By feeling the pulse at different positions on both wrists, we can assess the condition of major organ systems.
  • The pulse can reveal deficiencies (e.g., weak Kidney energy), stagnation (blocked Qi or Blood), or imbalances (Yin vs. Yang).
  • For fertility, a “thin” pulse may reflect Blood deficiency, while a “wiry” pulse may point to stress-related Liver Qi stagnation.

Frequently Asked Question

How long does the first consultation take?

The initial consultation usually lasts 30–45 minutes, depending on the complexity of your fertility history. Follow-up sessions are usually shorter, as they focus on tracking progress and adjusting your treatment plan.

Will I get a treatment plan immediately after the consultation?

Yes. Based on your tongue, pulse, and consultation findings, we will provide a personalized fertility treatment plan.

This may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, or lifestyle changes to support natural conception or assisted reproduction (IVF/IUI).

Can TCM diagnosis and treatment be done while I’m undergoing IVF or IUI?

Absolutely. TCM works well alongside assisted reproductive technologies.

In fact, many patients use acupuncture and herbal support to improve egg quality, reduce stress, and prepare the uterine lining for implantation during IVF cycles.

How soon will I see results after starting treatment?

It depends on your individual condition. Some patients notice improved energy, better sleep, or more regular periods within a few weeks.

For fertility, most plans are recommended for at least 3–6 months to allow the body to restore balance and improve reproductive health.

Do I need to bring my medical reports or test results?

Yes, it is highly recommended.

Reports such as blood tests, hormone profiles, ultrasound scans, or IVF records help our practitioners understand your condition more fully and allow us to align TCM treatments with your ongoing fertility care.
